Thailand / 16 years old / Partnerschool: “School for Life” near Chiang Mai

Meowadee has attended “School for Life”, a school and orphanage in Chiang Mai, Thailand, for the past 6 years. She is now in seventh grade. She wants to do “something creative”when she completes her schooling. As the Thai winner of our recurring Photo Rally, she certainly has our support.

Her precise compositions and creative response to the tasks impressed us. She has natural curiosity to go along with her natural talent. She would like to learn from children in other countries how their local nature looks and how they greet each other. She dreams of traveling to a country where she can feel a shiver and make snow angels.

Before the rally begins, we teach the students the fundamentals of photography. The rally itself lasts about one hour for each student. The artist stays with the student throughout and assists as needed. The artist offers mild guidance only in the form of thought-provoking questions or encouraging suggestions. Otherwise, the budding photojournalists rely on themselves and an eye for the intriguing.

The postproduction phase entails a second workshop, in the basics of photoediting. The artist helps each student select their submissions. Each student receives the same amount of time and assistance in photo selection.

The students’ works will be exhibited at School for Life. We expect the children will enjoy sharing their submissions with each other. Meowadee’s submission will be entered into our international rally. The winners of this rally will have their work shown in a professional gallery. All the students receive copies of their photos and some exciting new “exposure”.
